> Healthy candidates

Political candidates must be physically fit and mentally sound before they are allowed to contest in elections. It’s a waste of time and money to hold by-elections when death of representatives due to ill health occurs. Candidates must also be assessed on propensity for corruption. We must protect the nation and people. – Robert Chan

> Seriously, guys

It’s not what you wear that shows your personality. It’s what you do and how you think. So enough of the high and mighty moral values of certain MPs. You were elected to represent the rakyat to ensure that the country is well governed and not on how certain people are dressed. Grow up, please. Look within yourselves and reflect on your own faults instead of rambling on about eye-catching attire. – Jason

> UEC recognition

Can students with A-level or Australian Matriculation from local private schools enter public universities? If so, students with the UEC should also be allowed.

> Mind your manners

Politicians must behave like gentlemen in Parliament and should not go overboard on freedom of speech by using foul language. Be good and inspiring role models to your constituents, please. “Change your thoughts and you change your world.” (Norman Vincent Peale) – Guiding Light

> Keen competition

Do not start another national car project! Competition is too keen! Protectionism means rakyat will be denied better and safer foreign cars! – Zr

> Joke on Low

Is Jho Low waging a legal battle over the Equanimity? I can just say “Ha ha” to him! – Ckhock

> Sheltering refugees

I find June HL Wong’s article “Remembering Hell Island” ( The Star,

Aug 8) a bit unrealistic. How would a country, itself in dire straits and over populated, take in refugees? Would it be fair to the citizens? – JQ

> Equal opportunity

Why are fully residential schools ( sekolah berasrama penuh) only open to pupils from national schools and not to all who Year Six pupils? I hope Pakatan Harapan will look into this matter and give equal opportunity for all good students to study in these schools. – Indra Ramasamy

All Tuesday special draws by number forecast operators should be stopped, not just reduced, from next year onwards. – Tan, PG

We should emulate Indonesia by manufacturing our own rolling stock for trains, and light and medium aircraft. Third national car project is not relevant now. - SRI
