The player with highest points wins the match. The players can also win the match by successful­ly attempting different locks or submission tricks on each other and can end the match before time.

KURASH

Uzbekistan that resembles wrestling.

It’s played by two athletes, one wearing a green jacket and the other blue. The objective is to throw the opponent to the ground. If thrown to the back, victory is declared. If thrown to the side, points are awarded. If thrown on the belly or weakly on the side, a lower score is given. The one with the most points wins.

JU-JITSU

DATES: Aug 24-26 VENUE: Jakarta Convention Centre Assembly Hall MEDALS AT STAKE: 9-9-18 TEAM: No Malaysian competing HOW IT’S PLAYED The fight between two opponents starts in standing positions. Punches and kicks are not allowed. The referee interrupt only in critical moments so for the most part, the fight takes place on the ground.

The goal is to win by submission with a lock on the joints or strangulat­ion. Five minutes are given for athletes to gain points for throws, take down, controllin­g positions and actions that give one the advantage. The sport is extremely tactical and sometimes described as the chess game of martial arts.
