Online radio station attempts 72-hour non-stop broadcast

PETALING JAYA: In the spirit of Merdeka, an online radio station is attempting to make it into the Malaysia Book of Records by going live for 72 hours.

AFO Radio, a free Malaysian online radio station, has embarked on a mission to break the record for the longest non-stop outdoor broadcast by an online radio station.

The effort, which coincides with AFO Radio’s launch of its new studio at KL Citywalk, started at 9.30am on Wednesday and is scheduled to end tomorrow at the same time.

AFO Radio chief executive officer William Lim said its team was trying to break the record to mark the coming 61st National Day.

“We want to show that with teamwork and cooperation, anything is possible. We have a team of 16 radio announcers working hard outdoors at KL Citywalk.

“It will be fun to have a large gathering with our listeners and fans when we break the record tomorrow morning,” said Lim.

AFO Radio’s English Language station started operating in 2010, while its Chinese Lang- uage station opened five months ago.

Malaysia Book of Records business development director Gillian Ooi will present the acknowledgment certificate to Lim tomorrow if AFO Radio breaks the record.

To reward listeners and fans, the station would also celebrate the finale of the challenge with a closing party that day, Lim said.

“There are 500 prizes to be given away tomorrow worth about RM100,000. All our listeners have to do is join a simple contest to get an invite to the finale,” he added.

Winners stand to walk away with goodies such as an APD Car Wrap worth RM5,000, 500,000 Air-Asia BIG Points, Bomberg watches, Nokia smartphones, TGV movie passes and hotel stays.

To win prizes, listeners only need to download the AFO Radio app (aforadio), go to “Contest #afo72” and fill in some details, upon which they will receive a QR Code. This gives them the chance to redeem a gift at KL Citywalk tomorrow from 9.30am to 11am.
