Pakatan only managed to fulfil 20% of pledges, says Suaram

KUALA LUMPUR: Civil societies are accusing the Pakatan Harapan government of having fulfilled only a fifth of its 100-day manifesto pledges, just as the deadline draws near.

Suara Rakyat Malaysia released its 100 Days Report Card on the Pakatan administration and Buku Harapan Promises, pointing to the Pakatan government only scoring 20%.

Suaram director Kua Kia Soong said there had been a lot of delay in the Government carrying out reforms in the country.

“In the first 100 days, we find that their report card scored around 20% based on their own promises alone.

“Their victory in the 14th General Election, we believe is a victory for the people and showed that the people wanted radical changes.

“Pakatan said they didn’t expect to win, but it shouldn’t be used as an excuse to renege on their election promises,” said Kua at the unveiling of the report card.

As an example, Kua said that instead of detailing how it could better its economic policies than those of the Barisan Nasional government, the current government was still playing the “blame game”.

Kua said civil societies wanted to see the government carry out real reforms, such as ending race-based policies and introducing needsbased measures, bringing back local council elections, and showing zero-tolerance for corruption.

He, however, applauded the government for introducing Employees Provident Fund (EPF) for housewives and postponing National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) repayment for those whose salaries fell below RM4,000, both of which were in the manifesto.

Bersih 2.0 acting chairman Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari said the government’s performance in its first 100 days, which falls on Friday, was “below par”.

Shahrul said based on Suaram’s report card, one needed to ask “whether institutional reforms were of a priority to the government”.

He said there needed to be check and balance in the country to ensure the government fulfilled all of its promises.
