KUALA LUMPUR: Samsung Malaysia Electronics leveraged its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 9, for a good cause, raising more than RM115,000 for the Education Ministry in an auction.

During the launch at Stadium Axiata, Samsung auctioned three limited edition gold-plated Note 9 with the bid starting at RM5,000.

The phones were snapped up by Cheil Malaysia president Randy Wu at RM45,000, KTS Cellular director Angie Lim at RM35,000 and Publicis TeamCEO Tan Kien Eng at RM35,000.

Samsung Malaysia Electronics president Yoonsoo Kim said the Note 9 combines power, productivity, endurance and entertainment in one device.

“Consumers nowadays are constantly looking out for a smartphone that is capable of doing it all – from taking great photos to smooth gaming experiences and business presentations. I’m glad to announce it now, you have the perfect option in the Galaxy Note 9,” he said.

The highlight of the Note 9 is its signature S Pen stylus, which now has Bluetooth connectivity, allowing it to be used as a remote control to take photos from up to 10m away or scroll through slides or photos, and play and pause videos.

The stylus charges when slotted back in the phone, taking just 40 seconds to fully charge it for 30 minutes of use.

The Note 9 has twin 12-megapixel main cameras and an 8-megapixel front camera and they have been made smarter, able to recognise scenes and subjects in 20 categories so the camera settings are optimised for the best photos.

There is also a Flaw Detection feature that alerts users if there’s something wrong with a photo – for instance, if the subject blinked or the lens is smudged.

Other key features of the Note 9 is a huge 4,000mAh battery, the largest ever in a Samsung flagship, larger storage (128GB or 512GB) and a 6.4in Infinity Display.

The Note 9 will go on sale from Aug 24, with the 128GB model available in Ocean Blue, Midnight Black and Metallic Copper for RM3,699. The 512GB Galaxy Note 9 costs RM4,599 and only comes in Midnight Black.
