Never too young to show love for M’sia
School pupils perform songs, a dance, poetry and others in spirit of Merdeka
KUALA LUMPUR: As Malaysians look forward to celebrating National Day, students at SJK(C) Han Ming were bursting with pride when the Jalur Gemilang was hoisted and they sang Negaraku with patriotic fervour.
While waving mini national flags, the students continued with the late Sudirman Haji Arshad’s hit Tanggal 31 with gusto at their school in Kampung Baru Bt. 14, Puchong.
SJK(C) Han Ming, a co-ed school, has 3,671 students with 144 teachers conducting the morning and afternoon sessions.
Candy-coloured #AnakAnakMalaysia wristbands, with unique pins, were given away to the students by Eco World Foundation. And the youngsters excitedly wore them.
When students Cheah Xin Yew, Yogithaa Kumaresan and Nur Farzana Mohd Azhar, all aged 10, were asked what they felt about the #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign, the three girls replied in Chinese: “Wo ai ma lai xi ya (I Love Malaysia)”.
Cheah said she loved her school, her friends, whatever religion they might be, and enjoyed food of the different races.
Foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said he hoped the wristbands would infuse in the students a deep sense of love and respect for the nation.
“For each student, the wristband is a reminder to serve their nation to the fullest. Become successful and able citizens who can help move Malaysia forward with innovative ideas,” he said.
Some 20 students paid tribute to the nation singing Ali, Ah Kau dan Muthu while playing the ukulele.
Student Wong Zi Ling rendered a poem in Chinese titled I Love Malaysia while Law Shanynn recited hers, Malaysia My Home, in English. Two more students, Chen Huai Qing and Ding Wan Kee, recited a Malay poem titled Bukan Sekadar Kata (More Than Just Words).
The students also came up with a dance performance, accompanied by melodious patriotic renditions.
Principal Wong Kee Chiew said he appreciated Eco World Foundation’s initiative to instil the patriotic spirit among the students, adding that he was grateful that his school was chosen.
Also present were the foundation’s chief executive officer Captain (Rtd) Datuk Liew Siong Sing, trustee Tan Sri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad, Eco World Development Group Berhad chief operating officer Datuk S. Rajoo, Star Media Group Bhd executive editor Brian Martin, who represented Star Media Group Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, SJK (C) Han Ming Parents Teachers Association chairman Chua Thiam Chye, committee member Winston Chin Shin Boo and the school’s board of management chairman Datuk Loh Mun Shum.
The foundation is a platform under EcoWorld to fulfil the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives in various areas, especially education, regardless of race and religion.
The #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign is a collaboration between EcoWorld – Malaysia’s prominent property developer – and the nation’s leading English language daily news- paper The Star.
The 3.8km walk will take place at 6.30am on Sept 2 at the Eco Ardence Sales Gallery, Persiaran Setia Alam, Setia Alam, Shah Alam.
The registration fee is RM40 (Adult) / RM20 (Child) / RM100 (Family Package 2 Adults, 2 Children).
