We are not against the construction of the LRT in Penang. It’s just that this project involves extensive reclamation on the southern part of the island. The state government should not take the easy way out. Reclamation activities should be minimised.

> Budget for CT scanners

Can the Health Ministry please allocate a bigger budget to University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) or review its budget so that it can purchase more CT scan machines? Patients have to wait two weeks to get a slot. I know of a cancer patient who was warded and had to fast from midnight till 5pm only to be told there was no slot available the next day. I view this as heartless because the patient was already weak.

> Unnecessary competition

Government should be gradually withdrawing from industry and not competing with the private sector except where it has failed the people. The threat of waste and corruption should not be hard to understand.

> Underperforming stocks

Bursa Malaysia, it’s time to delist some companies in our Ace Market. Many want to get listed for the wrong purposes. Please stop listing new companies. Go look at our Ace Market counters and compare the prices from their initial listing with what they are today.

> English proficiency

Knowledge of English is power and our proficiency in this international language is a valuable asset that should be treasured. It can open the door to golden opportunities and endless possibilities. – Guiding Light

> Just give the money

Referring to the letter “At odds with Registrar of Unclaimed Money” (The Star, Aug 15), I fully agree that my money held by the Registrar of Unclaimed Money should be refunded to me with no forms to be filled. – Joyce

Unclaimed money belonging to individuals should be credited into their EPF account based on matching identity card numbers, old or new. – Rakyat M’sia

> Stop the discounts

Thousands of people queue up for hours to pay their traffic summonses when the 50% discount is given. Why do the authorities need to offer such discounts? This is very wrong because it will only encourage the public to delay paying their summonses. In fact, those who do not pay up immediately should be further penalised by having their licence suspended. – Richard Chan
