Shafie: We need more time to fulfil promises
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government needs more time to deliver on some of its promises to the people, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Shafie said a major overhaul of the system of administration is needed to meet the high expectations of voters who gave their mandate to the Parti Warisan Sabah-led state government.
“I know there are very high expectations and hopes, but it took more than 50 years to change the government.
“You cannot just unwind (the system) overnight and expect miracles to happen in only 100 days," he explained.
Shafie assured that the state government is on the right track.
The Warisan president admitted that some of the state government's decisions have not gone down well with the public.
These include the proposal to build a dam in Papar and the delay in removing political appointees in government- linked companies (GLCs).
“It will take some time (to remove politically appointed GLC heads), hopefully less than a month,” Shafie told the media after officiating the 6th Sabah International Surveyors' Congress here yesterday.
The state government comprising Warisan and its partners PKR, DAP and Upko has banned timber exports, abolished communal land titles, strengthened the state-owned Yayasan Sabah, and restructured the Water Department as well as the Forestry Department.
Shafie said the country has changed for the better under Pakatan Harapan, and will continue to progress with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the helm.
