-

GEORGE TOWN: An RTM videographer, who was shot in the chest in 2016, initially thought he was at the scene of an accident.

Mohamad Amirul Amin Mohamed Amer, in his statement of claim, alleged that he was shot by bodyguard Ja’afar Halid at 7.15pm on Dec 1, 2016 when he went to help out at what he thought was the scene of an accident along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.

He named Ja’afar as the first defendant and GMP Kaisar Security (M) Sdn Bhd as second defendant for allegedly being liable for the acts committed by Ja’afar.

Mohamad Amirul, 30, claimed that the shot caused him severe injuries such as open wounds over the left anterior chest and posteriorly inferior left scapula.

He had also sustained fractures to his ribs, wounds on his chest and a laceration to his left lung.

Mohamad Amirul is seeking special damages for treatment he received at hospital amounting to RM2,000, and other unspecified general and aggravated damages.

In the statement of defence, GMP Kaisar Security said it contracted another company, North Metal Industrial Sdn Bhd, to provide personal bodyguard services.

It claimed that North Metal had tasked Ja’afar to businessman Datuk Ong Teik Kwong.

It also said the shooting occurred due to Ja’afar’s own misconduct.

Mohamad Amirul was represented by K. Simon Murali, while GMP Kaisar Security was represented by Azam Rashid. Ja’afar was unrepresented.

High Court judge Justice Hadhariah Syed Ismail set Oct 15 for case management.
