Dr M’s time spent outside Putrajaya

Since taking office, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has set himself a punishing schedule, sleeping only two or three hours. Yet, he managed to squeeze in the time to make several visits outside of Putrajaya in the last three months with his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasm

Dr Mahathir returns to Langkawi after becoming Prime Minister. Locals gather at the Al-Hana Mosque in Kuah to break fast with him.

This is Dr Mahathir’s first overseas visit after becoming Malaysia’s seventh prime minister. He makes a three-day working visit to Tokyo, Japan, to attend the 24th Internatio­nal Conference on the Future of Asia, or Nikkei Conference, at the invitation of Nikkei Incorporat­ed. Dr Mahathir’s trip was also to attract more foreign investment­s to Malaysia and to engage with Japan’s captains of industry.

He also meets Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Dr Mahathir travels to Indonesia for a working visit, where he meets with Indonesian President Joko Widodo. He also holds a special session with some 300 Malaysians living in Jakarta.

Dr Mahathir and Dr Siti Hasmah attend former federal minister Tan Sri Leo Moggie’s granddaugh­ter’s wedding reception at Santubong, Sarawak. He also attends a closed-door briefing on the developmen­t of Sarawak at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Kuching. Before returning to Kuala Lumpur, Dr Mahathir is said to have met with state Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The couple visits Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, following his operation to remove a pancreatic tumour.

Dr Mahathir spends a day on Langkawi to open the Langkawi Nature Park and visits the hospital where he served as a medical officer more than 60 years ago.

He visits Fukuoka and Oita in Japan for a four-day working visit. He is accompanie­d by his wife, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik, Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Wisma Putra officials. He delivers a keynote address at the Japan Future Leaders School and Kyushu Asian Institute of Leadership.

He also meets with Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan Hiroto Izumi and visits the Kyushu Railway Company Safety Creation Centre, the Groovenaut­s Inc. Technology Park in Fukuoka and the Ritsumeika­n University in Oita.

His long anticipate­d visit to China where he is schedule to meet President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to re-negotiate Beijing-backed major projects. He is also expected to visit the HQ of Jack Ma’s Alibaba Group in Hangzhou.
