Making a statement with wristbands
Popular patriotic accessory is back with a new limited edition design
PETALING JAYA: There are wristbands and then there is the #AnakAnakMalaysia wristband.
Much more than a fashion accessory, these bands have become a popular way for Malaysians to show their patriotic spirit during the Merdeka month.
These wristbands will be available exclusively to The Star readers over a sixday period starting tomorrow. This year’s version is extra special because of its new limited edition design.
Eco World Development Group Bhd executive director Liew Tian Xiong said this time around, the band has five unique customisable pins that represent recognisable symbols of Malaysia.
“We wanted to make the bands more appealing to the younger generation and decided to include pins representing nasi lemak bungkus, Sabah’s iconic Mount Kinabalu, Sarawak’s hornbill, the wau from the East Coast as well as a patriotic ‘I Love Malaysia’ shoutout,” he said.
Liew said readers had a preview of the new wristband as photos were published three weeks ago after the launch of the campaign at Eco Ardence, Setia Alam, Selangor.
“People are eager to get it and for some, it has become a collector’s item. During the sixday period, readers can get the wristband attached to the newspaper but to get hold of the five pins, just drop by any Eco World show gallery nationwide,” he said.
On Aug 19, 22, 25, 27, 29 and 30, a total of 500,000 #AnakAnakMalaysia wristbands will be attached to the The Star newspaper nationwide.
Liew said the wristbands from the previous #AnakAnakMalaysia events were now a musthave for people during the Merdeka and Hari Malaysia period.
Last year’s wristbands, which featured the Jalur Gemilang and sketches of everyday Malaysians by local cartoonist Reggie Lee, have become a collectable item.
In 2016, the wristbands featured a simple Jalur Gemilang design.
But the 2017 version is much sought after by collectors for its rarity.
This year, The Star readers will have to follow @ewlabs on Instagram and like the Eco World Facebook page to be entitled for three pins a pack.
Those who do not have Instagram can just like the Facebook page.
Readers who want a second pack of pins are required to like the Eco World Facebook page.
For those who want to get more than two packs, they will need an additional Instagram and Facebook account.
The pins can also be redeemed during the 3.8km walk on Sept 2 at 6.30am at Eco Ardence Sales Gallery, Persiaran Setia Alam, Shah Alam.
The registration fee for the walk is RM40 (adult), RM20 (child) and RM100 (family package two adults and two children).
The #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk is a collaboration between Malaysia’s wellknown property developer Eco World Development Group Bhd and Star Media Group.
Other sponsors for the event include Panasonic (Silver Sponsor) and DRBHICOM (Car Sponsor).
