Pakatan’s Wong to work closely with local authority

KAJANG: Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the Balakong state seat Wong Siew Ki wants to work with the local authority to ensure the constituency’s infrastructure, such as its traffic and drainage systems are upgraded.

This was part of her three-point manifesto presented yesterday, two days after her MCA opponent Tan Chee Teong unveiled his on Sunday.

Wong brought up issues such as the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn connection to the Grand Saga Highway, as well as the riverbank-strengthening and river dredging taking place in Sungai Balak.

She said she would work with the local Residents Representation Council and similar organisations to strengthen community relations in Balakong.

She said she would continue with the annual “Pesta Balakong” which was started by the late assemblyman Eddie Ng to encourage social activities and form a new local identity in Balakong.

“The ‘Pesta Balakong’ was launched in 2014 and it received good feedback for the first two years.

“But in the last two, response dwindled, so we will rebrand and bring it back up again. It can be for tourists, but it’s aimed mainly for Balakong residents,” said Wong.

This would also help Balakong be known not just as a semi-urban and industrial area, she added.

Asked if she was worried about PAS voters, Wong said she was not.

“I’m confident that every voter is wise and can think for themselves who is able to work for a better future for them.

“These aren’t the days where you vote one way because your leaders tell you to, people can think for themselves too,” she said.
