PKR man apologises to Dr M over Anwar plot claim

KLANG: A PKR lawmaker has apologised to Tun DrMahathir Mohamad for levelling an allegation against the Prime Minister during a party election campaign recently.

Kapar MP Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid has also retracted his accusation that Dr Mahathir was conspiring with several others to prevent PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the next prime minister.

Abdullah Sani made the accusa tion in Seremban on Aug 12 while campaigning for Rafizi Ramli, who is going against PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali in the upcoming party polls.

Abdullah Sani, who is a PKR central executive committee member, also claimed Council of Eminent Persons chief Tun Daim Zainuddin was involved with Dr Mahathir in preventing Anwar from becoming prime minister.

He told a press conference at his service centre in Kapar yesterday he was advised by Anwar to apologise and retract his allegation.

“I was in Kota Kinabalu when I received a call in which Anwar explained the matter as well as directed me to do the necessary,” said Abdullah Sani.

He had also written an apology letter which was delivered to the Prime Minister’s office yesterday.

In the letter, Abdullah Sani said he now understood about the execution of the transfer of power (from Dr Mahathir to Anwar) after being advised and directed by Anwar.

He also told reporters that Anwar’s explanation, advice and direction had convinced him that Dr Mahathir will honour the Pakatan Harapan consensus to step down and hand over the nation’s reins to Anwar when the time comes.

He said he was informed that talks were ongoing with regard to Anwar taking over from Dr Mahathir.

Abdullah Sani said whatever he had uttered was purely based on his perception which was guided by information he received from internal PKR and Pakatan discussions about the matter.

He added he was prepared to face any action initiated by the party’s disciplinary committee.
