Police: Abduction of young girl by Africans found to be not true

-

JOHOR BARU: Rumours about a three-year-old girl being abducted by a group of Africans at a shopping mall here is untrue, said Deputy Comm Datuk Kamaruddin Md Din.

The Johor deputy police chief said no reports had been lodged over the incident, which allegedly took place earlier this month.

“If there is such a case, I would have been made aware of the matter but so far, there have been no such reports,” he said.

Such false news would create panic among the public and paint the city in a bad light, he added.

“People should not share unverified news on social media because most of the time, the story turns out to be false,” he said.

DCP Kamaruddin called on the public not to share such news on social media unless the authorities have verified it.

An abduction story involving a toddler has been making its rounds on social media after a mother claimed her daughter was abducted by a group of Africans at a popular shopping mall in Skudai.

The mother’s post alleged that an African woman had approached her while she was in the midst of paying for her daughter’s clothes on the pretext of asking whether there was a moneychanger inside the mall.

She then claimed to have seen two male African teenagers dragging her daughter to the elevator.

However, her scream alerted another group of passers-by who then chased after the Africans.

The mother also said that the suspects then left her daughter before escaping on foot through the parking lot.

The post, which is on the KHAS Penduduk Kawasan Skudai Facebook page, had been shared more than 7,000 times on Facebook.
