Disabled designer has no problem travelling solo

-

BEING disabled is no hindrance for Farah Nadhirah Kordy to travel solo, reported Harian Metro.

Farah, who is mute and deaf, has visited more than 10 countries and funded her trips as a fashion designer in Kuala Lumpur. She has been to Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Singapore, Indonesia, Belgium, Thailand and India.

“I usually go with my family when there’s time. But when I started working in 2012 and earned my own money, I built up the courage to travel alone overseas.

“At first my family was worried but I convinced them that I could be independent,” said Farah, 32.

The eldest of four siblings, Farah said she would travel at least twice a year depending on her funds.

She said although she is mute and deaf, she did not face any issues in communicating while travelling.

“Usually I would type out words in my smartphone if they don’t understand sign language. I also always carry a pen to make it easier to communicate,” she said.

> The daily also reported that a fisherman in Kuantan, Pahang, rode his motorcycle to the hospital’s emergency room after being attacked by a crocodile.

Hamid Ismail, 42, was attacked by the animal at about 4am at Sungai Kampung Kurnia in Kuantan last Friday.

He had gone to the river to scoop water out of his boat when a crocodile suddenly bit his left arm.

“The crocodile tried to pull me into the river. I struggled as hard as I could to save myself but it was aggressive and bit my cheek, chest and my back.

“I managed to free myself and rode my motorcycle for almost 2km to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan while bleeding severely.

“As soon as I arrived, I asked for help before passing out,” he said.
