‘Equanimity’ off limits for public viewing, says insider

KLANG: The luxury yacht Equanimity, which was bought with funds diverted from 1Malaysia Development Bhd unlawfully, is not easily accessible for public viewing.

It is learnt that some parts of the Boustead Cruise Centre have always been restricted to the public at large.

“All the areas after the checkin and Xray of luggage are only accessible to passengers going on cruises, our staff and crew members,’’ said an executive familiar with the operations of the cruise terminal.

So, he added, it was not something unusual for people to be halted from entering the area.

A steady stream of curious people has been arriving at the cruise centre to catch sight of the superyacht Equanimity that is berthed there.

“And the restriction is tighter now as the Navy, police and marine police are all stationed here and are in charge of the place,’’ said the man.

He explained that his identity cannot be divulged as the cruise centre has been instructed by the authorities not to issue any statement or say anything to the media.

He added that patrol boats were also going around the area and even fishing boats that are not very near the superyacht have been turned away by the patrol boats.

The man said those coming to the cruise centre to get a glimpse of the vessel have not been allowed beyond the guardhouse.

“We really hope people will understand that it is not in our hands to allow them to see the vessel.

“The decision lies with the authorities handling the matter,’’ he added.
