PETALING JAYA: Families should take advantage of community walks as a way of spending quality time together.

Former Maritime Institute of Malaysia director-general Pola Singh, 69, said there was no picture more captivating than families out on a walk together with their children.

“One good way to keep the walks enjoyable is to find an upcoming local walk that the family can do with ease, and make it fun.

“Walking together as a family goes beyond physical health,” he said.

Pola added that if the walk was free of handphones, it was quality time spent together.

“One good walk is the annual #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk. It caters to all ages and it is only 3.8km long,” he said.

Pola said his wife Rina Pola, 66, his daughter Cheryl Kaur, son-in-law Chris Chan, 47, and two grandchildren, Hannah, 10, and Nathan, six, love walking on weekends in Bukit Kiara’s green areas.

“We are three generations walking together,” said Pola, who is an ardent fan of the annual #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk.

Pola has registered for the walk and is eager to meet other fellow walkers.

“More families must use the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk to communicate and build a stronger bond. Often, when families walk together, they have the time to speak to each other more than they do at home.

“It transforms the walk experience into an inspiring element,” he noted.

The #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk is seeing thousands of people signing up with the aim of enjoying a good workout, meeting other people and just having fun.

The 3.8km #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk will be flagged off at 6.30am on Sept 2 at the Eco Ardence Sales Gallery, Persiaran Setia Alam, Setia Alam, Shah Alam.

The walk is expected to see about 6,000 participants taking part while promoting unity, harmony and tolerance.

The registration fee for the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk is RM40 (adult), RM20 (child) and RM100 (family package of two adults, two children).

#AnakAnakMalaysia Walk is a collaboration between Malaysia’s well-known property developer Eco World Development Group Bhd and Star Media Group.

Other sponsors for the event include Panasonic (Silver Sponsor) and DRB-Hicom (Car Sponsor).
