Walkers hope to get lucky
Participants also hope to win something at lucky draw
PETALING JAYA: Wan Nor Balkish Mior Izhan is hoping she will be second time lucky this year and win another lucky draw prize at this year’s #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk.
“I won a hotel stay in Kuala Lumpur for the same event last year, so I’m hoping to win something this year!” said the 33-year-old.
Wan Nor Balkish and her colleague Muhammad Afiq Zakaria, 31, were at Menara Star to collect t-shirts and goodie bags on behalf of a group of colleagues from Aeon Co (M) Bhd.
“Ours will be a multi-racial group, with a mix of new and returning participants. I did a survey of the location over the weekend and it’s good that it’s not too far from the city,” said Muhammad Afiq, himself a first-time participant.
#AnakAnakMalaysia Walk will be held on Sept 2 at Eco Ardence Sales Gallery, Persiaran Setia Alam, Setia Alam, Shah Alam.
The team from Sen Yue Holdings, a manufacturing company based in Section 26, Shah Alam, will also be sending a multi-racial group for the walk.
“This is my second time participating. Three of my colleagues won lucky draws last year, so I hope I’ll be lucky enough to win something this year,” said Norsuhhaiale Sulaiman, who is in her 40s.
Mohd Othman Munari, 52, said he was signing up for the first time as he did not want to miss out on the fun.
“It will be nice to socialise with my colleagues outside an office environment and to celebrate New Malaysia with them,” he said.
The Chan family from Kota Kemuning said the non-competitive walk was something they could enjoy as a family.
“We want our children to be more active and participate in outdoor activities. So we try to join events as a family, such as 5km runs or walks,” said father Colin Chan Kim Leng, 47.
“We joined #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk last year.
“It was laid back yet fun, as the drummers and other activities made it more interesting.”
When asked why they were joining the event for the second time, eight-year-old Andrew Chan Wai Kin said: “Because it’s fun and there’s ice-cream!”
Also present during the goodie bag collection were Teddy Rinawaty, 45, and her daughter Sophie Chan Wai Ling, 10.
Noor Suhaida Md Noor and her family joined the walk since it was first held in Kuala Lumpur two years ago.
“I like it because we get to enjoy a different scenery at a different location each year. Plus it’s a non-competitive event, so families can go at their own pace,” said the 42-year-old mother of two boys.
‘I hope the organisers will consider giving participants who finish the walk medals next time.’
Noor Suhaida even managed to recruit cousin Mohd Rydzuan Mustapha Kamal, 43, to join her for the walk.
“I usually run in marathons. But since I don’t have a marathon that weekend, I will be going for #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk with my wife and two children,” said Mohd Rydzuan.
