Striving towards a better Malaysia

Help lift the nation to greater heights

PETALING JAYA: The new Malaysia has brought much hope, excitement and optimism to its people that change is indeed possible.

While the new line-up of leaders is working hard to steer the country to greater heights, Malaysians can also do their part in making a difference to society and the country.

Through its Raise The Flag campaign in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day, Star Media Group is inviting Malaysians to make a #MYpledge that will bring about small but positive changes.

The campaign is in its second year, and this year’s aim is to get the rakyat to make their pledge on things they can do as an individual, a family, a group, a business or a corporate entity.

Gan Hong Bin, 29, vowed to be more supportive of local brands and products.

“I think it’s very important that we support anything local, be it buying local brands or supporting local athletes and musicians because it can help in the development of our country.”

Nash Zulkifli, 27, pledged to be more patient in dealing with strangers online.

“I pledge to not waste my time arguing with strangers on social media.

“I like to read the comments’ section on Instagram, and when I don’t like what other people are saying, I will usually reply and tell them my opinion as well.

“I know it’s a waste of time but it really gets to me when people say crazy things.

“That’s why I’m pledging not to do that anymore because it doesn’t solve anything,” said Nash.

ring theme in most of the #MYpledges.

“I believe that it’s important to be healthy so that we can live longer and healthier.

“Working in an office environment, there isn’t much room for physical activity,” said Zann Yee, 27, who pledged to join a gym before the end of the year.

As for Chermaine Lim, 30, she said everyone should strive to be happy in their life.

“I put ‘To be happy’ as #MYpledge because happiness is something that is easy and free to achieve,” she said.

Just like these Malaysians, you too can make any kind of pledge you want.

It may range from serving the nation as a professional, upholding honesty and integrity, curbing wastage, or looking after the cleanliness of public amenities.

US President John F. Kennedy once said: “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
