Merdeka spirit higher with Dr M at the helm

TUN Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been a revelation and something of a godsend to Malaysians. He is like a muchawaited Merdeka gift for us. He is, in one word, fantastic!

Many Malaysians, the intellectuals included, sort of feel he is the perfect choice in terms of level-minded thinking, collaboration (not his strength 20 years ago), maturity, international recognition and acceptance as a holistic leader.

He commands respect due to his knack for understanding the problems confronting our economy and citizens. He has matured and uses wisdom fairly to his and the nation’s advantage. His decisiveness, sarcasm, British humour and clever ability to deal with the foreign media make him special and likeable.

His antics, policies and intellectualism have made the previous prime minister look like a novice. Easily, he is one of the best prime ministers in the world today.

We hope he sets the precedence in creating a new breed of smart, diligent and intelligent leaders with integrity and values. This was miss- ing over the last decades. We all know what Dr Mahathir at the age of 93 is sacrificing for the nation. He knows we need him badly and many of us are praying for his longevity.

Malaysians are raising our national flags with pride to celebrate Aug 31, our independence day, and in appreciation of a great leader. Young or old, Malaysians salute him. The Merdeka spirit has never been so good! HARBAN SINGH Subang Jaya
