BALAKONG: The MCA candidate for Balakong state seat, Tan Chee Teong, called for better tree management after a 20mtall tree collapsed in Taman Damai Impian and crushed two cars.

“The tree, according to the residents here, is 15 years old and has not been taken care of.

“This problem keeps on happening. A lot of old trees in my neighbourhood in Cheras Perdana are also not maintained by the local council,” he said.

Tan added that the tree in Taman Damai Impian fell two days ago, and a report had been made to the Kajang Municipal Council for the tree to be removed.

If the tree was still not removed today, he would highlight the problem again on Facebook Live, he said.

He said local councils must plan where to plant trees, manage old trees and consider which species were suitable for the locality.

“Today, it’s two cars that got hit. Do you want to wait till people get hit before looking into the matter?” Tan asked rhetorically.

Meanwhile, in conjunction of the National Women’s Day today, Tan issued a message to express his gratitude for women’s contribution.

“Your contribution has not gone unnoticed. Whether you are a mother, wife or daughter, your selfless dedication deserves the great est respect and gratitude from your families, the community and the nation,” he said.

He added that he would push for a safer environment, especially for women, as well as foster racial harmony within the community.

With public security in his manifesto, he urged police to increase their presence in the constituency, adding that this would make women and the community at large feel safer.
