Ing Yueh won’t take it easy after laudable sixth-place finish

THERE will be no rest for artistic gymnast Tan Ing

Yueh (pic) after the Asian

Games as she intends to get cracking for the World Championships in Doha,

Qatar, from Oct 25-Nov 3.

The 21-year-old is buoyed by her performance at the Asiad after wrapping her debut in Jakarta yesterday with a laudable sixth place in the floor exercise final.

Ing Yueh impressed the judges to score 12.450 points and improved one rung from her seven-place finish during the qualifying round.

“I finished with slightly lower points (12.600) than the qualifying but that was due to stricter judging in the final.

“I’m very pleased to have finished sixth among the eight finalists,” said Ing Yueh.

“It’s been a great debut for me having also reached the team final with Farah (Ann Abdul Hadi) and Tracie (Ang), and in just our first try!

“We’ll get back to training when we return from Asiad as the World Championships is just two months away.

“That will be the first chance to try to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. There’s no time to waste.”

There’s however one regret for Ing Yueh – her failure to qualify for the final in her pet event, the balance beam.

She missed the top-eight cut for the medal round after finishing 18th.

“I hope to come back stronger in the balance beam event in the coming competition,” explained Ing Yueh.
