INSPIRING FUTURE LEGAL EAGLES
AS a provider of top legal education in the country, Taylor’s Law School has taken it upon itself to provide its students with a holistic education, which will allow them to perform competitively at both the national and global level.
Recognising the need to empower the next generation of aspiring legal eagles to become more competitive, Taylor’s Law School developed its Bachelor of Laws degree in order to meet the changing landscape of the legal scene in Malaysia.
The degree is continuously enhanced in consultation with leading legal professionals, the Bar Council of Malaysia as well as representatives from the top Law Schools in the United Kingdom in a bid to ensure that students who enrol for the programme are able to gain the best legal education possible.
With the recognition of the Taylor’s Bachelor of Laws degree from Malaysian Legal Profession Qualifying Board, Taylor’s Law School students can sit for their Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) examinations on completion of their law degree at Taylor’s University.
At the School, students are groomed to become legal professionals of the future through an engaging, relevant and high-quality education. Taylor’s Law School prides itself in grooming high-achieving law students who are not only well-versed with the law but also possess the passion to contribute meaningfully to the society. This is attributed to the curriculum of Taylor’s Law School, which is built on four pillars, namely real world experience, international outlook, community outreach and strong industry linkages.
Students are provided with realworld opportunities that enable them to enhance their educational journey and cultivate a deeper appreciation for the practice of law while simultaneously broadening their world view. Taylor’s Law School students are required to participate in mooting sessions, as part of the course structure, providing the platform for them to hone their presentation skills and master the ability to think and debate on their feet.
In addition to mooting, Taylor’s Law School students are able to regularly network with representatives from the legal industry, including the opportunity to partake in a centuries-old dining tradi- tion, that of the Inns of Court in the United Kingdom. These events allow students from Taylor’s Law School platforms to glean information from some of the country’s legal giants and improve their technical knowledge in a fairly informal setting.
The students also get the opportunities to hear from prominent figures in the law fraternity who are regularly invited to share their thoughts, experiences and wisdom as part of Taylor’s Law School Guest Speaker Talks series. Students at Taylor’s Law School also benefit from the strong linkages with the Legal Profession that the School has built throughout its 26-year history.
The School also provides opportunities for students to learn from legal practitioners from around the region through overseas study trips. These trips serve to not only educate the students about foreign laws and legal systems, but also provide them with an opportunity to appreciate the differences between foreign and Malaysian legal institutions. These trips are also a platform for Taylor’s Law School students to experience foreign cultures and lifestyles, as well as cultivate their social skills and teamwork.
In keeping with the aspiration of Taylor’s Law School to groom aspiring lawyers who contribute meaningfully to the society they live in, the School encourages stu- dents to actively contribute their time and effort to the community’s needs and participate in community service activities, such as fundraising and visits to charitable organisations and be involved in providing pro-bono legal advice.
With Taylor’s Curriculum Framework, students now have the opportunity to learn beyond their initial discipline. This flexibility allows them to go deeper into their field, outside their field, go into many fields, or be good at two fields by taking a second major. For example, a Bachelor of Laws student can opt to do a minor or second major in Psychology. If they feel that they want to delve further in the legal field, they can do an extension in either Corporate Law or International and Private Law.
Besides the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree, Taylor’s Law School also offers Master’s degrees in International Business and Trade Law, and Healthcare and Medical Law for law professionals who wish to specialise in these two growingly important fields. Taylor’s Law School will soon be launching its PhD in Law Programme, upon obtaining approval from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and the Ministry of Education.
