The teenager would hold out a handwritten note saying his father had died in a car crash and he needed money to buy formula and diapers for his two-month-old sibling.

The note also said that he had five brothers and sisters.

Welfare Department officers on the case found out it was untrue. The teenager has an eight-year-old sister and divorced parents.

Both parties lodged police reports over the matter.
