KUALA LUMPUR: Days of tirelessly painting has paid off for Universiti Teknologi Mara’s (UiTM) Faculty of Arts students who have earned bragging rights for their involvement in Petronas Dagangan Berhad’s (PFB) Merdeka campaign.

PDB unveiled its pilot series of hand-painted 3D murals, which depicts the splendour of the country, capturing beautiful moments and places.

Themed “Cerita Kita”, PDB managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said the National and Malaysia Day campaign aimed to promote unity and social cohesion among Malaysians.

“In the spirit of patriotism, we have embarked on immortalising our country’s pride and joy through our murals, each with a story on its own to remind us of our love for Malaysia,” he said at the mural’s unveiling at the Solaris Putra Petronas station here yesterday.

He added that the company engaged students to take part in the campaign as part of its effort to showcase the capabilities of local talents as well as to encourage youths to demonstrate their pride for the country through works of art.

“Each mural is different, depicting the culture and heritage of a particular state,” said Syed Zainal.

“The murals – which took the students about four days to complete for each – create a unique identity to every station,” he said, noting that PDB was in discussions with UiTM to come up with more sketches and ideas to expand the

initiative to up to 400 of its stations nationwide.

“PDB will hire students from various universities to paint the murals once the concept of the murals is chosen.

“Hopefully, the mural project will

be completed by 2019. The stations have already been identified, while funds have been allocated,” said Syed Zainal, noting that allocation of the project fell under PDB’s RM350mil capital expenditure budget.
