Angry Jufferi slams juries after staging walkout in final

NATIONAL pencak silat exponent Mohd Al-Jufferi Jamari staged a walkout annd slammed two juries as he fell to a shockk

4-1 loss to Adi Putra Komang Harik of Indonesia in the final of the Putra E (6570kg) event.

A fuming Jufferi walked out of the fighht with just two seconds remaining in the final at the Padepokan Pencak Silat Arena in Taman Mini Indonesia after he suspected two juries were not awarding him the points accordingl­y in the tanding (sparring) event.

More drama followed in the changing room as an irate Jufferi punched a hole in the wall.

Jufferi said he was willing to face the consequenc­es of his actions and slammed the juries from Laos and South Korea after being given the e silver.

“I couldn’t control my temper as I felt cheated by these two juries. They’ve always been biased against me,” said Jufferi.

“I’ve no ill feelings towards Komang an nd I respect everyone except the two juri juries ... it’s just infuriatin­g to lose under this circumstan­ce.

“Pencak silat is being introduced in the Asian Games for the first time, and if the judging is flawed like this, I don’t think the sport will be included in the next Asiad.”

Malaysia also settled for their second silver in the tanding event when Mohd Faizul Nasir lost 5-0 to Indonesia’s Abdul Malik in the Putra B (50-55kg) class event.

Meanwhile, scratch pair Mohd Taqiyuddin Hamid-Muhammad Afifi Nordin defied the odds to clinch a bronze medal in the men’s silat seni (artistic) double event yesterday.

The duo collected 560 points to finish third while Vietnam’s Tran Duc Danh-Hong Quan came in second with 562 and Indonesian pair Jampil Yola Primadona-Hendy clinched the gold with 580 points.

Malaysia’s next chance of winning the gold medal are in the hands of Mohd Fauzi Khalid and Mohd Khaizul Yaacob, who face Vietnam opponents.

Fauzi will take on Tran Dinh Nam in the men’s class F (70-75kg) and Khaizul faces Nguyen Van Tri in the men’s class J (90-95kg) tomorrow.
