MELAKA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission ( MACC) is awaiting the green light from the Attorney General to press charges against a state executive councillor and a businessman over alleged graft.

State MACC director Abu Talib Othman said the investigation papers had been submitted to Putrajaya.

“We are waiting for an order on the next course of action,” he said without elaborating on the details of the investigation.

Abu Talib said this to reporters after signing a corruption-free pledge at the Melaka Kini office in Ayer Keroh yesterday.

Melaka Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh said the state exco member should relinquish all his positions pending the completion of the investigation.

He said the MACC should not be afraid to reveal the truth about the case as the alleged act was tantamount to stealing.

“Hence, a fair investigation should be initiated regardless of his connections or influence,” he added.

On Monday, Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari confirmed that he was summoned by the MACC to assist in the investigation.

He also revealed that the case involved a senior exco member and a sum of RM2.6mil.

Adly said he would give his full cooperation and no information would be withheld.

The exco member is said to have demanded kickbacks from a developer to prevent a mega project from being shelved.

It is learnt that he also approached several other developers to solicit kickbacks.

Last week, MACC officers raided his office at the Seri Negeri complex in Ayer Keroh twice.
