A lesson in patriotism from former Moral teacher
SHAH ALAM: Retired teacher Ngim Chin Eng will be celebrating National Day this year by participating in the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk with her family.
The 61-year-old said nine of her family members spanning three generations would be participating in the event.
“We signed up for this walk because it’s a family-friendly event and to show our patriotism and love for our country.
“As someone who taught Civics and Moral Studies, this is also about practising what I shared with my students,” said Ngim, whose previous postings included Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Johor.
Ngim was at Eco Ardence Sales Gallery to collect T-shirts and goodie bags on behalf of her family.
Rahaina Abdul Rahman, 40, also signed up for the event in view of its Merdeka theme and patriotic spirit.
“It will be a fun walk where people of all races and ages come together to show that we are united as Malaysians,” said the nurse at Hospital Shah Alam.
“I signed up for the walk with four of my colleagues. But I will probably get my husband and three children to join me as well. It will be nice if we could win a lucky draw item too.”
Teh Weil Xuan said his bosses at Morison AAC accounting firm encouraged the staff to join the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk as a way to socialise outside the office and to celebrate the new Malaysia.
“We will be sending a group of 14 multiracial people, ranging from executives in their 20s to company partners in their 60s.
“It will be fun to exercise together as a team and perhaps enjoy the sights at the Eco World’s property,” said Teh, 30, adding that their participation fees were sponsored by the firm.
Meanwhile, Aina Suzila Abd Aziz, 36, is looking forward to collecting the #AnakAnakMalaysia bracelet and pins for her four-year-old son, who will not be joining the walk.
“The route looks challenging, but the pit stops will make it more fun,” said the resident of Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya.
Roshini Gopal Krishnan, 33, said: “My husband and I usually participate in marathons, but we didn’t want to miss out on this walk as it is being held in conjunction with National Day.
“We are excited to bring our two children to join us, as it will be an opportunity for them to meet different people and learn more about what the celebration means.”
