PETALING JAYA: The spirit of patriotism was high among the employees of PLUS Malaysia Bhd at the PLUS Unity Drive flag off.

They waved the Jalur Gemilang while cheering out loud as a fleet of PLUSRonda vehicles leading the convoy drove past them at Persada PLUS in Subang Jaya.

Joining the charity drive were personnel from radio stations 988 and Suria FM cruisers, and Malay online portal MStar.

The convoy comprised three teams which went on their individual routes to brighten up the day for charity organisations in the central, southern and northern regions.

The selected charity organisations are Rumah Rukaiyah in Kajang, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Seremban in Negri Sembilan, and PIBG SK Slim Village in Slim River, Perak.

Each beneficiary received monetary contributions while its residents were treated to fun activities.

The charity drive was initiated as part of PLUS’ National Day and Malaysia Day campaign, which was launched prior to the flag off on Wednesday.

Speaking at the launch event, PLUS managing director Datuk Azman Ismail expressed that National Day and Malaysia Day essentially reflect the spirit of unity among Malaysians.

“Themed Unity through Connectivity, this year’s campaign projects our aspiration in uniting and connecting people through our safe and comfortable highway network.

“Aimed at promoting unity and patriotism among Malaysians and love for the country, various programmes and activities are lined up in celebration of our country’s significant moments, which is also in line with this year’s National Day theme

Sayangi Malaysiaku,” he said.

The event started off with PLUS employees and guests singing

Negaraku with pride, followed by the reciting of Rukun Negara.

Loud cheers filled the air as rock band Bunkface made a special appearance singing the official theme song for the National Day celebrations, Kita Punya Malaysia, among other favourites.

As part of its efforts to promote unity among Malaysian, PLUS collaborated with Projek57, a social enterprise committed towards building unity and hope in Malaysia as well as creators of the Unity Ribbon in sup- port of the orang asli education and empowerment programmes.

Throughout the campaign, all 4,000 PLUS employees will be proudly wearing the ribbon, inspired by the Jalur Gemilang and first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, as a symbol of support towards building hope, unity and connectivity with one another in Malaysia.

“PLUS and Projek57 share the same vision to inspire unity among Malaysians from all walks of life, regardless of race and religion, to live together in harmony in Malaysia,” said Azman.

PLUS also initiated the Sayangi Malaysiaku Drive where radio personalities visited places of interest along the PLUS highway network such as Bandar Hilir in Melaka, Ulu Bendul Recreational Forest in Kuala

Pilah (Negri Sembilan), Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple in Johor Baru and Iskandariah Palace in Kuala Kangsar (Perak).

Other campaign highlights include the Kenali Malaysia, Sayangi Malaysia photo contest on Facebook and Instagram which runs until Sept 30.

To participate, one is required to post and share photos on patriotism and unity on their social media pages accompanied by the #PLUSMerdeka2018 hashtag.

The most captivating photo will stand a chance to win an iPhone X and 10,000 PLUSMiles points.

Those who are stopping by the Sungai Buloh Overhead Bridge Restaurant can check out the Rukunegara and National Day photo exhibition.

A collaboration between PLUS and Arkib Negara Malaysia, the three-month exhibition focuses on our Rukunegara and its primary objective of being the key to unity of this nation.

Additionally, special menus are available at PLUS rest and service areas until end of September in celebration of the country’s special event.
