Wendy shares incentive money with food charity body

DIVER Wendy Ng has a bi g heart.

She plans to share her r Asian Games incentive money y with a food charity organisaation she works with.

Wendy is assured of RM20,000 as part of her share under the National Sports Council (NSC) incentive scheme for winning silver in the women’s 3m springboard synchro with Nur Dhabitah Sabri on Wednesday.

Wendy will compete in the women’s 3m springboard individual competition tomorrow.

Not many know that the 225-year-old Wendy is involved in KKechara Soup Kitchen, where she innvests her time as a volunteer by serserving the poor and hungry in Kuala Lumpur during the weekends.

“I try to help in food charities when I have the time on Sunday. During weekdays, I juggle my training and studies.

“Other than my family members, I plan to share my reward with the people involved in the food charities because they were also my supporters during the low point of my career,” said Wendy.

She was referring to the time when she tested positive for doping and had to serve an eight-month ban.

She was tested positive for sibutramine, a substance commonly found in slimming products at the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games last year and had to return the two golds she won in the 3m springboard individual and synchro with Nur Dhabitah.

“Working with them made me realise life is not easy and that I should appreciate what I have in my life.

“The Asian Games is only my second competition after the FINA Diving World Cup in Wuhan, China, (in June) since I returned from my doping ban.

“I was under more pressure in the Asiad as Dhabitah and I were expected to contribute medals, so I’m happy to deliver one,” added Wendy.

She also took silver in the same discipline in the last two Asian Games. She partnered Leong Mun Yee to silver in Guangzhou (2010) and repeated the feat with Cheong Jun Hoong in Incheon (2014).
