Duo allege being in danger from pirates

-

HARIAN Metro reported that actors Hairul Azreen and Ammar Alfian, who claimed to be in danger of being kidnapped by pirates during the shooting of a movie off Semporna, Sabah, will be called in to have their statements taken.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) Commander Datuk Hazani Ghazali said their statements would be recorded at its headquarters in Lahad Datu.

Authorities, he said, viewed their claims seriously. “Everyone should be very careful when making any statement involving the security,” he said.

>Sarjan Hassan, a 1958 Malay classic war film regularly screened on National Day, is partly based on the true story of one Sarjan Hassan Othman, reported Utusan Malaysia.

Hassan’s daughter Noor Mazni said the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee had bought the script from her father for RM10,000.

The legendary actor and film maker went on to play the main lead in the movie, which was set during the Japanese invasion of Malaya.

Noor Mazni said her father had written the script based on his experience in fighting the communists.

Her father, she said, had joined the army to avenge his wife and grandfather who were killed by the communists right before his eyes.

“My father cycled for miles to learn silat from several gurus before joining the army in 1946 and was based in several black areas such as in Baling, Kedah, and Gerik, Perak.

“He encountered many incidents and although not all were included in the movie, we are still very proud because there is a film about the army’s courage and bravery based on his experience,” she said.

Hassan, who was born in 1927 in Kampung Pantai, Seremban, passed away in 1991 at the age of 64. He retired from the army as a Kapten.
