Disciplinary panel to investigate allegations of disruptive coach
KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) rules and discipline committee will form a panel to investigate into an allegation that a coach has disrupted the unity among players in the men’s doubles department.
BAM’s secretary Datuk Ng Chin Chai, who is also the chairman of coaching and training (CNT) committee, said the matter was brought up and discussed during the meeting yesterday.
And the matter has been handed to the rules and discipline committee headed by Datuk Seri Jahaberdeen Mohd Yunos to be probed.
“We’ve referred this matter to the rules and discipline committee for them to find out if the allegations by the shuttlers are true,” said Chin Chai.
“They will form a panel to investigate. “Those who are responsible will be identified and we’ll take appropriate action against them.”
Chin Chai, however, refused to elaborate on the form of action could be taken if the particular coach was at fault.
“If there’s truth to the allegations, then the rules and discipline committee will recommend to the BAM Council the necessary actions that need to be taken.”
Former doubles shuttler Tan Boon Heong, who has been sparring with the men’s doubles players, was the first to point out the lack of commitment of one of the coaches which led to the disharmony in the men’s doubles camp.
The allegation was then supported by national team member Goh V Shem, who alleged that the particular coach was “bringing them down”.
Chin Chai added that the rules and discipline committee will also deal with another allegation of players being involved in betting activities during training.
Chin Chai said: “We do not condone any form of betting activities in the BAM, be it friendly or involving money,” warned Chin Chai. “The BAM have zero tolerance against betting.”
