TAMPIN: PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed that he has three options from which to pick a parliamentary seat to contest in the by-election that will enable him to return to Parliament.

“One seat is in the north, the second in the central region and the third is in the south.

“But if I decide to come to Negri Sembilan, I hope to get your full support,” he said to applause at a meeting with Tampin PKR members here yesterday.

Anwar jokingly said that when he contested the Permatang Pauh seat in a by-election in 2008, people from as far away as Negri Sembilan came to give him their support.

“We must always remember that the people have elected us because they want reforms.

“We can’t afford to be arrogant or corrupt because the people will throw us out,” he added.

Talk has been rife that Anwar may either contest in his stronghold of Permatang Pauh, where his political career began, or Nibong Tebal, both in Penang.

On the choice of seats, he said that he would discuss this with the incumbents.

“We will make the announcement very soon,” he added.

Anwar said he was also happy to be back in Negri Sembilan for the first time after having been in Sungai Buloh prison.

“We managed to form the government not because of me, Wan Azizah (PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) or Dr Mahathir alone.

“We were elected to power because the people, including those in the kampung and estates, knew how rife corruption and power abuse was.

“And that is why they threw the former government out,” he said.

Anwar also reminded party members to stay united and refrain from forming camps.

“If anyone asks you which camp you are in you must say you are in the Keadilan camp and your boss is Anwar Ibrahim,” he said, and advised members to elect leaders with principles.
