We won’t stop serving the people, says Liow

-

SEREMBAN: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang should be wary of the law of karma and stop belittling MCA, says Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

The party president said MCA would continue to serve the people despite having fared poorly in the May 9 polls.

“Don’t belittle or run us down without any basis because we are a great party and committed to serving the people.

“We have more than one million members and they will see MCA emerge stronger one day,” he said when met after opening the Negri Sembilan MCA annual general meeting.

Liow was asked to respond to a statement by Lim that MCA should consider closing shop if the best it could do was to ensure its candidate did not lose his deposit during Saturday’s Balakong by-election.

Lim claimed without PAS’ help, the MCA candidate would have lost his deposit.

Liow said MCA was now in the midst of undergoing a transformation process.

“We have our presence all over the country and are clear on our objectives to continue to serve the people and strengthen multiracial harmony,” he said.

Liow also brushed aside Lim’s claim that MCA had formed an “unholy alliance” with PAS in Balakong, adding that it was the DAP which did so with the Islamist party previously.

“Since MCA went into the contest as an underdog, we welcomed support from any party but this did not mean that we worked or formed an alliance with them.

“He (Lim) is only trying to mislead the people because it was the DAP which made a big mistake in working with PAS previously,” Liow pointed out.

In his speech, Liow urged members to continue with the party’s transformation process and not be discouraged by the Balakong result.

He said voters in Balakong supported Pakatan Harapan even though it had failed to deliver its pledges under its election manifesto within 100 days.

“The voters have been magnanimous and have given more time to Pakatan to deliver their promises,” he said.
