Sasi The Don to launch comeback single ‘ABCD’
KUALA LUMPUR: After four years of silence, the country’s leading reggae pop star Sasi The Don is making a comeback with Tamil single ABCD.
Sasidharan Chandran or Sasi, as he’s more commonly known, has had an impressive career spanning 18 years in which he pioneered a signature brand of Asian reggae and paved the way for his collaboration with India’s renowned playback singer Anuradha Sriram.
“ABCD is all about going back to basics. Initially, it was about celebrating the simple things in life. I spent one month on this song,” the 40-year-old singer said.
ABCD, composed by Sasi and co-written by Navin D’navigator and Saran Narayan, will be released in the first week of October in conjunction with Deepavali.
Sasi explained that he took a fouryear break to spend more time with his daughter.
On working with Anuradha, Sasi said he was impressed with her personality and she was an early influence in his music career.
This is the first time Anuradha, who has sung over 6,000 songs in Kollywood, has agreed to a collaboration with someone outside the Indian film industry.
Sasi, on the other hand, has released five albums to date, and is currently working on his new album titled Timeless.
Anuradha said she was happy with the collaboration and that it was a unique experience.
“I am more well-versed in classical songs, so reggae and this modern style was something new. However, I enjoyed doing this,” said the prestigious Tamil Nadu state “Kalaimamani” award winner. — Bernama
