PKR Wanita chief questions move, Youth leader upbeat

-

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s foray into Port Dickson has led to a divergence of views among PKR leaders.

PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin (pic) questioned the manner in which the decision to vacate the Port Dickson parliamentary seat was made and called for the PKR president-elect to declare his stand on the matter.

She described the manner in which certain PKR leaders decided for the seat to be vacated to pave the way for Anwar’s return to Parliament as “frivolous”.

“Every decision made by the party must be taken collectively in order to get the support from the members.

“The consensus achieved must be in line with the spirit of reform and democracy,” she said yesterday.

Zuraida, who is also Pakatan Harapan Wanita chief, warned that if the decision-making process was not carried out openly, transparently and democratically, it would create confusion among the people.

“It is as though PKR had been manipulated by a certain group,” she said, adding that it was important for the entire PKR leadership to uphold the reform agenda that they had been fighting for.

“I really hope Anwar will himself declare his stand on this matter,” she said.

PKR Youth leader Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad called on Malaysians who loved democracy to back Anwar’s quest to return to Parliament.

He said 20 years after the beginning of reformasi and over a decade behind bars, Anwar remained undaunted in his battle for a free and just Malaysia.

“I pledge to do everything I can to ensure PKR’s incoming president and Malaysia’s prime minister-in-waiting will succeed,” he said in a statement.

Nik Nazmi, who is also Pakatan Youth leader, thanked the MP for Port Dickson Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah for his noble sacrifice.

“I have no doubt that he will continue to serve his country and party as he always has. He is a true soldier and a true gentleman,” added Nik Nazmi.
