MACC meets Daim over land deals
But Mohd Shukri keeps mum on brief meeting at CEP chairman’s office
KUALA LUMPUR: A brief but high-profile meeting took place at Menara Ilham here over questionable land transactions in the federal capital.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull was spotted arriving at around 10.40am yesterday and leaving about 45 minutes later.
He was believed to have met Tun Daim Zainuddin in relation to investigations into the land transactions, which were alleged to have occurred under the previous government.
Mohd Shukri and several of his officers arrived in three MACC vehicles before entering the building where the office of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) chairman is located.
It is learnt that the meeting was held after Daim handed the outcome of a report involving the land transactions for further investigation by the MACC.
When contacted by Bernama, Mohd Shukri declined to comment on the meeting.
“Ask Tun Daim,” he said. According to earlier reports, Daim would meet the MACC following findings by his CEP team that transactions involving 91 land lots in the federal capital were doubtful, including transactions on the land involving the Bandar Malaysia project.
On June 4, the MACC seized documents related to 64 parcels of land, valued at RM4.28bil, carried out without open tender between 2013 and 2018 by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
The deals, involving 172ha of land, were allegedly made through direct negotiations.
Out of the 64 parcels of land, 16 lots or 37.24ha of land were sold to a single property developer for RM785mil.
The issue came to light following a report lodged by Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng on May 16, urging the MACC to probe the 64 parcels of land sold by City Hall under the purview of former federal territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Lim had alleged that half of the land was sold for Federal Territories Affordable Housing development and the rest for upmarket residential and commercial products.
