THE success of Munafik 2 has left its director Syamsul Yusof in awe, reported Harian Metro.

The horror flick, which was released on Aug 29, has collected RM35mil at the local box office so far.

Syamsul, 34, said he never thought the film would receive such an extraordinary response from local cinemagoers.

The sequel was made with a budget of RM2.9mil. The first film, which was released in 2016, raked in RM17.04mil at the box office.

Munafik 2 tells the story of a cult leader who misinterprets Islamic teachings for his own gain.

Ustaz Adam, played by Syamsul, takes on the cult leader as he comes to the aid of Maya Karin’s character, a single mother who is being held captive.

Syamsul said Munafik 2 would be screened at 50 cinemas in Indonesia from Sept 26.

“I’m excited because based on the response to the trailer, I am expecting an equally good reaction from Indonesian moviegoers,” he added.

> Kosmo! reported that a 13yearold boy nearly died while swimming in a river in Sandakan when a crocodile grabbed his right thigh and dragged him into deep waters.

Arsil Alkam was swimming in Hulu Sungai Seguntor with a friend at about noon when the crocodile attacked him.

According to witnesses, Arsil screamed for help and kicked at the crocodile until it finally released him.
