Students get a chance to shine with science
FROM the 154 proposals received, 111 schools successfully submitted complete reports and video presentations to be selected for the final.
Ten best schools were then selected by the judges to take part in the Science Fair for Young Children 2018.
Association of Science, Technology and Innovation (ASTI) Committee president Dr Yunus Yasin said the Science Fair for Young Children was created in 2007 and is a major programme today held by the ASTI for Tamil school pupils at the school, state and national levels.
Almost 60,000 Tamil school pupils participate annually in this programme.
Previous participants also took part in international events.
“The Science Fair for Young Children has been a platform for young children to showcase their scientific understanding and skills.
“This programme trains the teachers to help their pupils to develop the understanding of the scientific method by using experimental techniques, creative and critical thinking and utilising innovative solutions,” he said, adding that 327 Tamil school teachers took part in the training this year.
“This event for the Tamil school pupils was conducted this year at the school level as usual, but we were unable to do so at the state level due to lack of funds,” he said.
All the participants were awarded with certificates and medals.
