Labourer jailed 20 years for raping underage girlfriend

KOTA BARU: A labourer was sentenced to 20 years in jail and two strokes of the rotan for raping his 15yearold girlfriend.

Sessions Court judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin imposed the sentence after Mohamad Irman Ibrahim, 20, pleaded guilty to two counts of raping his underage girlfriend.

The judge ordered a 10year jail sentence and one stroke of the rotan for each offence. However, the jail sentence was ordered to be carried out concurrently from the date of arrest on Dec 24.

Mohamad Irman was charged with raping the girl in a house in Kampung Kulim housing estate, Pasir Puteh, between 2am and 4am in June last year, and between 2am and 3am in August the same year.

He was charged under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code that carries a maximum 20year jail term and whipping.

According to the facts of the case, the accused brought the victim to his house at 12.15am in June last year and engaged in sexual intercourse with her in a bedroom before sending her back home at 4am.

Following a police report lodged in November last year, investigations revealed that the girl was raped again in August.

Mohamad Irman had earlier asked for leniency, claiming that he and the girl were engaged in a consensual sexual relationship and that it was his first offence.
