KANGAR: A full-term pregnant woman and her husband died in a car crash during a massive storm here. A teenager also died.

Bernama reported that Siti Asmah Abdul Khalid, 27, was scheduled to deliver her baby on Monday when the car she was in with Hafiz Johari, 28, collided with another car at an intersection in Bukit Cabang, Padang Besar, at about 9.30pm yesterday.

The other car was driven by police constable Muhamad Amirul Naim Aziz, 24. All of them died on the spot.

Head of the Management Department at Perlis police contingent headquarters Supt Mohd Nor Marzukee Besar said the police constable was returning home from his in-laws’ house in Padang Besar to Seriab in Kangar.

He was travelling with his wife Ku Noor Shakila Ku Sharudin, 25, and their two daughters, two-yearold Mia Iris Safiya and four-monthold Maya Iris Safiya.

“Mia Iris Safiya is in critical condition, while Ku Noor Shakila and Maya Iris Safiya sustained minor injuries. They are being treated at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital,” he said at the hospital.

Another massive storm here yesterday robbed the life of a teenage motorcyclist when his machine crashed into a tree which fell across the road at Jalan Tandop in Kampung Baru Tok Kuning near here at 11.45pm.

Kangar OCPD Supt Wari Kiew said Muhammad Kamal Haikal Roslan, 15, was heading towards Jalan Datok Ali with a friend riding pillion when the crash occurred.

Muhammad Kamal Haikal died on the spot while the pillion rider was injured and sent to hospital for treatment, he added.

The storm that killed the teenager also damaged 56 houses in the state. They are in Mata Ayer, Bintong, Kayang, Beseri, Sena, Chuping, Kuala Perlis and Pauh.

Perlis Malaysian Civil Defence Force, in a statement, said the storm

also damaged public facilities and uprooted 156 trees, some falling across major roads.

The operation to clean up the roads and houses affected by fallen trees was carried out by various agencies, it said.

Checks by Bernama at some of the affected areas found cleaning work in progress, including efforts to remove an arch which collapsed

in Rapoh near here.

It is learnt that the storm also caused damage to several schools and the state Education Department officials are expected to visit the schools.
