Jeremiah on course for three golds in final outing

-

PENANG artistic gymnast Jeremiah Loo is on track to cap his final outing in the Sukma with three gold medals.

Jeremiah retained his gold medal in the boy’s individual all-around event and played his part to wrestle the team gold medal from Selangor at the Indera Mulia Stadium yesterday.

Jeremiah collected 79.750 points for the individual gold followed by Selangor’s Benjamin Cheong Kok Kong at second (72.050) and Sabah’s Brandon Denoley Luise at third (71.700)

But the sweetest win was the team gold. Penang had lost to bitter rivals Selangor in the last Sukma in Sarawak two years ago.

Yesterday, Penang scored 290.650 points to emerge top while Selangor fin- ished second with 282.550. Sabah settled for bronze medal with 281.200 points.

Jeremiah will get a chance to add another gold medal when he gets into action in his pet event – pommel horse – in the apparatus finals today.

The 20-year-old was happy with his scores and said it would put him in good stead ahead of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Doha from Oct 25-Nov 3.

“I had a good day today as I scored 79 points. Getting 80.00 points at the World Championships will put me in a good position to collect points to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” said Jeremiah, who competed in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the Indonesian Asian Games this year.
