Selangor earn boasting rights after winning two events

-

SELANGOR divers flexed their muscles by grabbing two out of three gold medals at stake on the second day of the diving competition at the Tuanku Zara Aquatic Centre.

Muhd Syahmi Rezal-Muhd Haris Rizal splashed to gold in the 10m platform synchro final with 313.68 points ahead of Sarawakians Bertrand Rhodict Anak Lises-Enrique Harold, who finished the six-dive competition with 259.47 points.

It is the first gold medal for Haris, who partnered Tan Czyn Jien to take silver in the same event at the last Games in Kuching two years ago.

Hosts Perak also rejoiced when Chan Min Hern-Asyraaf Haiqal Arsyad took bronze with 216.57 points.

It was the first medal won by Perak, coached by former Olympian diver Gracie Junita of Sarawak, in this Sukma.

Adeline Chin, competing in her fifth Sukma, got her act right to deliver the second gold for Selangor in the girls’ 1m springboard individual final after ending the five-dive competition with 243.15 points to hold off teammate Erica Pan, who settled for silver with 240.80 points.

Ong Ker Ying took the bronze for Federal Territories with 231.45.

Bukit Jalil-based diver Adeline was happy to improve on the silver she won in the same event in Kuching two years ago.

“I lost to Jasmine Lai of Perak at the last Sukma. Jasmine is not eligible as she is over 21, so I faced the fight from my Selangor teammate and the FT diver.

“I was nervous but thankfully, I did okay in all my routines,” said the 19-year-old, who will be looking to defend the girls’ 3m springboard synchro title with same partner Koh Hui Yan tomorrow.

National diver Hanis Nazirul Jaya Surya claimed the boys’ 1m springboard individual gold for FT with 350.25 points.

Selangor’s Ikhlas Ahmad Shahrol and Sarawak’s Enrique Harold took silver (331.85) and bronze (313.20) respectively.
