Firms eyeing much more in employees for IR 4.0

-

KUALA LUMPUR: To prepare itself for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, organisations are increasingly looking for a workforce with high adaptability, critical thinking skills and the ability to work in teams.

Berjaya Corporation Bhd Group Human Resource and Administration Division (Learning and Organisational Development) senior manager Laurence Yap said that for corporations such as Berjaya, it was not just about finding talents who had these skills but also equip its present employees with the skills needed to face IR 4.0.

“We need those with high adaptability and flexibility, so that they could easily adapt to changes.

“There will be a lot of automation, there will be a lot of data available to them.

“They will be involved in the decision-making process (using the data) so they need to have the maturity to make a good decision for the business,” said Yap.

Malaysian Psychometrics Association president Dr Haniza Yon said that more organisations were using assessment tools to identify the right individuals for the right posts. She said that in the past, only experience and qualifications were important.

Today, employers were becom- ing more aware that employees’ personalities, especially the abilities to learn, adapt and work in teams, were important to face IR 4.0, she said.

Educational institutions were also adapting to the changing workplace environment.

HELP University vice-president for Corporate and Operational Performance Datin Dr Wendy Liow said the university now embedded data analytics component in all its courses to equip students with the necessary skills to face IR 4.0.

Yap, Haniza and Liow were among the panellists at the Facing, Embracing, and Overcoming Current Talent Shortages forum at the HR Conference, Talent Summit 2018, along with TMP Worldwide general manager ( Singapore)

Emmanuelle Loye, held at JW Marriot hotel here yesterday.

The forum was moderated by Google Malaysia industry manager Edward Ling.
