Most expensive M’sian movie is set for a Sept 27 opening
KUALA LUMPUR: With a budget of RM10mil,
Paskal the Movie is said to be the most expensive Malaysian movie made.
But according to director Adrian Teh, the film is actually under-budgeted.
“Yes, we had a big budget but to make this kind of film, RM10mil is not enough,” Teh said
He credited the navy for the help it provided during the course of filming.
Paskal the Movie is inspired by a true story, featuring two real missions carried out by
Pasukan Khas Laut or Paskal (Naval Special Warfare Forces), which is a special operations force of the navy.
It stars Hairul Azrin, Ammar Alfian, Henley Hii, Theeban G. and Taufiq Hanafi as Paskal operatives, with a special appearance by Hollywood actor Tiger Chen Hu.
Teh said the film was a tribute to all the men and women in uniform and to showcase the sacrifices made by them for the country.
To prepare for their roles, the cast underwent training for two months before filming.
Hairul even managed to master gun assembly in six seconds, which is the average time for a Paskal member.
When it came time to film the actionpacked feature, the actors opted to do the stunts themselves.
“We gave 200% to the film,” Taufiq said. “I hope audiences are entertained and that Paskal sets a new benchmark for local films.”
The movie’s gala night at GSC Mid Valley Megamall on Tuesday was attended by Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu.
Paskal the Movie opens on Sept 27 in GSC cinemas nationwide with sneak screenings starting this weekend.
Teh also announced that the movie would be shown in Singapore, Brunei, Turkey and China.
