(pic) – Sarawak are indeed thhe giants in diving.

The 16-year-old Kimberly waas hailed as the new diving princesss at the Tuanku Zara Aquatic Centretre yesterday after she chalked a fivedive total of 263.35 points to clinch the gold for Sarawak in the girls’ platform final competition.

Selangor’s Koh Hui Yan grabbed the silver with 236.55 points while Kimberly’s teammate Eilisha Rania took bronze with 227.70 points.

It was the second gold for Kimberly and also for her state in this Sukma. Kimberly bagged gold with Eilisha in the girls’ platform synchro event on Monday.

Kimberly’s sensational outing is a timely boost before she heads for the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from Oct 6-18.

The Kuching lass was pleased to have met the expectations to deliver the gold to follow in the footsteps of Elizabeth and Pandelela. Elizabeth and Pandelela were winners in Sukma before they went on to achieve bigger success.

“Sarawak had high hopes on me to win as I’ve been training with the national team in Bukit Jalil for the last one year,” said Kimberly, who was drafted into the national team last year.

“I found out that I will be going to the Youth Olympics to compete in the 3m springboard and 10m platform, so there’s no rest as my next competition is less than a month away.

“I am happy to win the two events I took part in here but I’m not satisfied with my performance. I give myself maybe a six or seven score out of 10.”

Kimberly got an invitation to join Jellson Jabillin as the flagbearers at the Youth Olympics.

Yesterday, Jellson partnered Gabriel Gilbert Daim to win the boys’ 3m springboard synchro for Sabah with 377.10 points.

Selangor’s Ikhlas Ahmad Sharol-Muhd Syahmi Rezal took silver with 307.62 points ahead of Sarawakians Bertrand RhodictEnrique Maccartney, who finished with 237.06 points to claim bronze.

Diving continues with two more events today – the boys’ platform and girls’ 3m springboard synchro.
