MACC to display MPs’ asset declaration list on Oct 15

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The display of a list of the declaration of assets by Cabinet ministers and MPs on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) portal has been postponed from Oct 1 to 15.

MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull said the postponement was to enable all the members of the Cabinet and MPs to submit their asset declaration as not all of them have completed three months of service.

“The list of the declaration of assets will be handed over to the Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and the MACC before we put it up on the MACC portal,” he said after the heads of department of Bernama made a declaration and signed the corruption-free pledge at Wisma Bernama yesterday.

The national news agency quoted Mohd Shukri as saying that the declaration of assets as of now did not involve state assemblymen and other state-level leaders.

He said that as of now, only a few Cabinet ministers and MPs had declared their assets.

Meanwhile, HEMANANTHANI

SIVANANDAM reports that a number of MPs have conceded that they have not filled up the forms yet.

Pakatan Harapan Backbenchers club president Datuk Johari Abdul acknowledged that he had not declared his assets to the MACC.

Johari, who is PKR’s Sungai Petani MP, said some candidates including him who stood for the elections and were assisted by think-tank Invoke Malaysia, have declared their assets to the public.

“But (declaring) officially to MACC, we have yet (to do so as we have) not been contacted by MACC,” he said.

Johari, however, said he would do the necessary and contact the antigraft agency to do the necessary.

He also said he would alert other Pakatan lawmakers to also declare their assets to MACC.

“My advice is everyone must declare (their assets) as this is our promise to the people. We must adhere to the promises made,” said Johari.

Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran, when contacted, said he had already declared his assets to MACC.

Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tsin said they were committed to the asset declaration and were now working to fill up those forms despite their “frantic schedule”.

“Rest assured that Pakatan MPs will be transparent and committed to this reform agenda,” he said.
