More people to be called up in 1MDB probe
KUALA LUMPUR: More people will be called up in connection with the investigation into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) following police grilling of Arul Kanda Kandasamy, says Comm Datuk Seri Amar Singh.
The Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director confirmed that the former 1MDB chief executive officer and president had been called in for questioning twice in the past few days.
“We have recorded the statements of about 70 people,” he told a press conference at the CCID headquarters yesterday.
Comm Amar added that Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor would also be called in to identify the items seized from premises that were linked to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“I can confirm that she will be called in soon, though I cannot say exactly when,” he said.
Comm Amar said Najib was among those who would be required to show up at the CCID headquarters soon for further questioning over the case.
It was reported that Arul Kanda was ques- tioned in relation to ongoing investigations involving the sovereign fund.
A news portal reported that Arul Kanda was called in for questioning over his 1MDB roadshows in the lead-up to the 14th General Election.
On Sept 20, Najib claimed trial to 25 charges of graft and money laundering relating to transactions amounting to RM2.3bil, which were believed to be linked to 1MDB.
The court granted bail of RM3.5mil with two sureties and fixed Nov 16 for case management.
Separately, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Umno would extend its cooperation to the police in relation to investigations over funds channelled to the party, believed to be from 1MDB.
The Umno vice-president said the authorities could be assured that the party would assist them.
He also said he was aware that some Umno liaison committee members had received notifications from the police.
