Barisan holds control in three state seats in Perak
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional maintains its control in three state seats for Hutan Melintang, Changkat Jong and Lubuk Merbau constituencies in Perak.
This is following High Court judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah’s decision to throw out the election petitions filed separately by G. Manivannan from PKR for the Hutan Melintang constituency, Faizul Mohamed Ismail from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for the Changkat Jong constituency and Zulkarnine Hashim (Bersatu) for the Lubok Merbau constituency.
The judge made the order after allowing preliminary objections raised by the three Barisan state assemblymen.
They were Hutan Melintang assemblyman Khairuddin Tarmizi, Changkat Jong assemblyman Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin and Lubok Merbau assemblyman Jurij Jalaludin.
Justice Sequerah found that the three petitions in the three constituencies did not follow the Election Offences Act 1954.
He said there were irregularities pertaining to the details in the petitions filed and the facts mentioned was not clear.
“I declare the three respondents from Barisan are the valid state assemblyman appointed,” he said yesterday.
Justice Sequerah then instructed Manivannan, Zulkarnine and Faizul to pay RM10,000 to each of the state assemblyman.
