‘Personal attacks and national issues two separate matters’

PORT DICKSON: Personal attacks and national issues are two separate matters, says PKR strategic communications director Fahmi Fadzil.

“Personal attacks are different, compared to official issues or experiences in the administration.

“In our campaigning, some will highlight kleptocracy, abuse of power and weaknesses in administration. Because we are aware that people voted for Pakatan Harapan to clean up and rebuild the country, this is also part of our (Pakatan) narrative,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Fahmi was responding to independent candidate Tan Sri Isa Samad, who said on Tuesday that he would have no qualms resorting to personal attacks if he was pushed.

The former Negri Sembilan mentri besar said this after someone touched on Isa’s corruption scandal with Felda Global Ventures Holdings (FGV) during a ceramah in Kampung Pacitan on Monday.

Also present at the press conference was former Port Dickson MP Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah.

“I was there (Kampung Pacitan) and never heard of any personal attacks,” said Danyal.

Fahmi said Pakatan would ensure that its leaders do not resort to per- sonal attacks across its election campaign for the Oct 13 polls.

“Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had said that personal attacks will not be used in his campaigns, and that’s why we will ensure that those who campaign are reminded about our work ethics,” he said.

Fahmi, the Lembah Pantai MP, said another allegation making its rounds on social media was about Anwar having millions of ringgit in an offshore account.

He said this was a claim first made by former Simpang Renggam MP Liang Teck Meng in 2013.

“It’s old news that has no credibility and in fact, Liang lost with a big majority to Dr Maszlee Malik,” he said.

Fahmi said opponents in Port Dickson should focus their attention on issues involving tourism.
